Stormy Weather

Isaiah 26: 3-4 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever. For the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”

Wow! The rain keeps falling and the water keeps rising. This not only describes the current weather pattern, but also the troubles that seems to be inundating my world right now. Are you feeling that way too?

Just like the clouds that roll onto the horizon, situations in our lives can bring about storms of conflict and anxiety. So what can we do? How do we keep from being bogged down by the weight of the problems that seem to multiply like the raindrops outside our windows?

We don’t look down at the rising waters, we don’t look ahead at the forecast that seems to give no hope of a break in the clouds hanging over us, instead we look up! Priscilla Shirer puts it this way, “Concentrating on Him instead of being absorbed by our circumstances tells the Lord that we believe He is able to override and overcome even the most difficult issues.” Our God is greater than any storm cloud or problem that we are facing in our lives, and His Word promises that He will be the shelter from the storm and an anchor for our soul, so that we may weather any problems that arise.

Today, let’s be thankful for the protection and provision of our Savior, instead of being anxious. Let’s not focus on the clouds that seem so dark and ominous, instead let’s turn our eyes toward the Son, (no, that’s not a typo!)
