Feast or Famine?

Did you wake up hungry today?  I did!  This is supposed to be a good sign that our metabolisms are working. Fasting is good for our physical bodies, in fact, a current fitness trend promotes regular periods of not eating. But when God speaks of hunger, He’s not always talking about real food.

Throughout the Bible, God references a hunger for His word.  Jeremiah says, “Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts” (Jeremiah 15:16).
As Amos was prophesying the destruction of Israel, God told them, “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.  They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the Lord, but they shall not find it” (Amos 8: 11-12).

I find it a staggering irony that over 100 million Bibles are printed each year, yet most Christians are spiritually starving!

Today, as you give your body the food it needs to accomplish the work ahead of you, don’t neglect to feed your heart and soul as well.  Take some time to sit down to the table of God’s word and feast on His truth!
